Growing up isn’t always easy, but for many Metro Atlanta youth, growing up is far harder than it should be. For thousands of youth in Metro Atlanta, living in poverty and the lack of resources tend to be the “norm” and because of this, challenges faced are far more severe than what can be seen on the surface. 75% of girls in Metro Atlanta are living in poverty and facing traumas they should never be victim to – sexual abuse, homelessness, drug-addicted parents, neglect. For so many, trauma is normal.
Girls are an extremely vulnerable population and have the hardest time just being a girl. Many girls suffer from peer pressure, low-self-esteem, generational poverty, inequality and frequently, trauma-filled pasts.
Raising BeYOUtiful Butterflies ("RBB") was created to disrupt the cycles of poverty, prevent teen pregnancy, and build self-esteem and confidence by uplifting, empowering, and educating young girls between the ages of 4-21 in the Atlanta metro region and is open to all girls regardless of race or socioeconomic background, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and language.
Our purpose is to:
- Connect girls from various cultures, beliefs, and socioeconomic backgrounds in a safe, healthy, and supportive learning environment where they can create meaningful relationships among their peers’ that foster their strengths and support them through challenges.
- Teach young girls how they can fit into the world and also stand out by playing an active and integral role in the lives of each one of the young girls in our program.
- Empower a generation of young women, to be bold, authentic leaders in their lives, schools and communities by transforming self-doubt into self-love through dialogue about things that matter.
- Motivate young women that in spite of their hardships, there are possibilities that await them.
- Create an environment that exposes girls to positive images of women and real world opportunities that builds confidence, character, and strength.

The name Raising BeYOUtiful Butterflies encapsulates the organization's core ideals and provides a roadmap to where we want to go:
WE, the village are Raising empowered girls who empower other girls.
ALL girls are BeYOUtiful and unique in their own way, while empowering them to be the best version of themselves.
OUR SYMBOL:
Monarch Butterfly -- Butterflies symbolizes growth, hope, and new beginnings. In order for a caterpillar to grow, develop, and change into a BeYOUtiful butterfly, she must go through several stages of development before emerging into her true being-- a girl has multiple layers she must shed before she is considered a woman. In life we all go through the stages of transition.

In our work with girls, Raising BeYOUtiful Butterflies aim is nothing less than empowerment. Raising BeYOUtiful Butterflies defines an empowered girl as someone who knows her strengths and capabilities, isn’t afraid to embrace them, an active learner in school, a confident actor in her family and community, and ready to take on her biggest dreams. An empowered girl is in touch with her voice. She recognizes that her voice matters, that she matters. An empowered girl believes in herself, has the confidence to express herself in the company of her peers as well as adults, she knows that she can do and be anything she sets her mind, and lives in a community where she is treated equally, where parents, peers, and role models supports her growth and her goals.

The Board of Directors and staff of Raising BeYOUtiful Butterflies work together as a team, understanding that success only comes when we work together, respect each other’s differences, and openly share information and resources to achieve our mission. We are guided by a set of core values that serve as the foundation of how we operate:
